Facial Asymmetry Correction

★★ Facial Asymmetry Correction ★★

When a mid-line of the face is off the center,
such condition indicates facial asymmetry.

People with facial asymmetry tend to suffer from low self-esteem due to their imbalanced appearances and inaccurate pronunciations. Facial asymmetry must be corrected also because of malocclusion which induces temporomandibular disorders, uncomfortable masticatory muscle movements, and digestive problems.
Let's look at the surgical methods of facial asymmetry correction.

Everyone has a little bit of asymmetry in their facial features. It's just the degree of severity that concludes whether you need a correction or not.

Facial asymmetry surgeries fall largely into two categories
depending on the degree of asymmetry - Mandibular surgery and two jaw surgery.

01 Mandibular surgery : This surgery is performed if the occlusion is not aligned, and only the lower jaw is asymmetrical.

Mandibular surgery cuts the posterior area of mandible and
pushes in the entire jaw to be overlapped.

01. Lower jaw is resected behind the molars,
and entire lower jaw including lower teeth are pushed in.
02. Rough edges are smoothed before bones are firmly fixed.

02 Two jaw surgery : This surgery is performed if the occlusion is tilted,
and the mid-facial line is off the center.

Two jaw surgery involves with osteotomy of both upper jaw (maxilla) and
lower jaw (mandible) to reposition them.

01.The space between upper jaw and lower jaw is resected and reattached into proper placement.
02. Rough edges are smoothed out when in right position.

For mandibular surgery,
the surgery takes about 2 hours under general anesthesia.
Your stitch is removed after 7-10 days post operation,
and you can go back to most of your daily life after 14 days.
You can go back to your normal meals about 20 days after,
but the recovery period can vary upon individual basis.

For two jaw surgery,
the surgery takes about 2-3 hours under general anesthesia.
The stitch is removed 7-10 days after surgery,
and you may go back to your daily activity after 14 days post operation.
You must wear a compressive mask for 2-3 days after surgery,
and about 70-80% of swelling resides after 3-4 weeks.

Surgical plans are precisely designed.
3D information containing the width and length of jaw bone
and location of nerves can effectively reduce the risk and duration of operation.

Complete analysis maximizes the success rate.
Detecting accurate location of bones and nerve structures can reduce damages on nerves, muscles, and other vital tissues.

 Mounting Process for Safety
Mounting process which adjusts the position of upper jaw is the most important step for two jaw surgery to be operated precisely as planned.

Systematic and Organized Cooperation
Two jaw surgery brings out the most satisfactory results when plastic surgeons carefully consider bone shapes and overall facial contours before combining aesthetic elements with the diagnosis of orthodontists. BK Plastic Surgery Hospital and BK Dental Clinic are located in the same building cooperating to ensure safe and accurate surgeries for all facial contouring procedures.
